Bonus Score…

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Oregon 600t Garmin GPS for taking along on the wildlife shoots. I’ve found my mobile phone often without signal while out in the more difficult areas to get to, or simply out bush. I have been interested in Geotagging my photos for some time, but had balked at the $300 plus price tag on a dedicated nikon GPS module to sit on the hot shoe.

Imagine my delight upon some further research more recently to find that I could use the tracking facility of the Oregon 600t Garmin GPS in conjunction with my Shoots, and import the “gtx” file into Lightroom 5.6 and attached coordinates etc to a set of files. Not that I need 5.6 to do it, but I’m very happy just the same. Dual functionality from a single device.

As Chemoux says, “SNAP”!

Can I Go Out to Play with the Big Cat…

There’s a new Furbag in the house, Chemoux (pronounced Schmoo). She’s a dear little critter, and she and Tigga are starting to work it out. Chemoux’s clearly all good, but Tigga is taking a little longer. Still it’s coming along fairly well with at least a 15 minute play session that didn’t end in tears for anyone! I’m sure there’ll be more of Chemoux up here soon.

Our Feathered Friends…

I’ve decided that I need to include a page and gallery for our feather friends, so look out for a new page to be included soon. Just need to collect the feathered friends together and throw them up.

Early Morning Singer

This little fellow was out under the pergola for a while this morning until I moved him on into the trees again. Tiggakat was looking at him a little to closely for my liking, and potentially his survival. Anyway while saving his life I figured he should also make a contribution to the Fauna in my Library.

New Bad Boy on the Block…

About 6 weeks ago or so I bought the Tamron 150 – 600mm. Awesome Lens for the price! Despite the reviews indicating it was less sharp for that last 50mm, I have to say it still does a great job if you have it on the tripod shooting that distance. Chances aren’t too bad by…

Slowly But Surely…

Added a few more photos this week, it’s been a long time coming. Been on holidays this week and finally got around to updating the various blogs to latest version of WordPress and updating Themes that had them. After that I thought since being on a roll I should get some more photos up. I’ve also added 2 more pages, Landscapes and Portraits & Self Portraits.

A Wishlist for the New Year…

From a Macro shot point of view (excuse the bad pun) I’m aiming to get some photographs of the below list by the end of summer. Not sure whether I’ll find them all conveniently close to home, but we shall see what I can check off the list in a few months!

Praying Mantis
Cicada
Wolf Spider
Orb Weaver
Ladybird

I may add to this list over the next week, but at this stage I’d be happy to score what’s there.

Technical prattle…

Over the last twelve months, I’ve been shopping for quite a bit of gear, given the overseas prices for purchasing gear. I won’t bother ranting about the price of gear in this country given the cost overseas, but I’ve been taking full advantage of the overseas pricing while I can: we all know it can’t last.

My most recent Glass purchase has been a Tamron 24- 70mm F2.8 mainly for use on the D600. Other recent purchases have been a Sigma 10-20mm, and also a bargain priced 50mm F1.8. Additionally this year I picked up locally a D600 for an excellent price of $1900 (with 2 year Australian warranty).

From a software perspective I’ve upgraded from Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5, and from Elements 11 to Elements 12. I might say though, that I’ve not used Elements for any photo editing really at this stage, certainly nothing on this site has been edited in anything other than Lightroom. I’ve been trying to develop my skill set to minimise the amount of time I have to spend modifying with software afterwards. I basically upgraded because of the promotional deal and the interest in seeing how well Revel would work. Still at some point I’ll get some use out of it, and well I’m not spending thousands on the full blown Photoshop.

Moving Ahead…

I’ve finally managed to devote a bit of time to getting this blog moving ahead. I’ve added some photos, and tried to tidy up the few things that didn’t seem to be working properly. Mostly this was to do with my unfamiliarity with the theme I’m using, Minimatica and how to make the most of it. Hopefully I’ll get the photos up for the other pages shortly. I know it may seem egotistical, but I’ve been putting copyright water marks on the images on the site, mostly because on the internet you just can’t be sure where something will end up. Not that I’m about to make any huge income on my photography (at least not in the short to medium term), but it’s worth imagining!

First Bloom…

I’ve started work on getting some shots up on here now, only a dozen or so for now. I’ve created some pages, but the form of this blog may change over time once I get a feel for it. I’m still yet to understand completely how this blog theme is meant to be used to it’s most effective.

But at this stage I’ve setup my presets for pushing out exports from Lightroom 4 at the correct size to quickly get them up on the blog.
